    We are lucky here in Australia to have a copy of this book in the State Library of Victoria. Anyone can request that it brought out offsite storage so they can look at it. Our copy has the brown leather cover unlike yours. There is no charge. The State Library also has a facsimile copy of the Book Of Kells we can view in the same manner.

    It's not just the iphone it's Android apps too. I noticed this a while ago when my Android app would vary greatly when I would do my daily 10,000 steps. I finally bought a cheap pedometer from Amazon and the difference was unbelievable. The app was undercounting about 1500 to 2000 steps. The pedometer varied about 5 to 10 steps. I use both the app and the pedometer daily to record the results and there has been no change. IMHO if you're looking for accurate step counting get a cheap pedometer for $15 to $20. The apps are good for recording distance though.

    I wish this went into more details about whether they compared the actual algorithms used to convert acceleration into step counts. There are many parameters to these algorithms and the discrepancy could entirely come from that. And even when using the high end accelerometer there is going to be arbitrary thresholds, missed steps and over counted steps. It would have been great to compare it to the actual ground truth of the number of steps really taken.

    In the Netherlands this is very normal. The schools are always in the neighborhood unless you choose a school that is further. There are always multiple schools to choose from though. The kids walk to school or ride their bikes to school. We do have cycling paths everywhere, so it’s quite safe. Kids always play around on the streets and in the playgrounds. All very normal here. Greetings from the Netherlands

    In theory isnt this no different than just putting a carbon fiber or even a steel strap on the wall?

    • @dan_38
      @dan_38 11 месяцев назад

      correct, but to apply carbon fiber or steel straps on earthquake prone areas are time and budget consuming, especially to average American clients who are not large businesses. If they can design this material that is both ecologically and budget affordable, then it's in the direction that benefits everyone long term.
